Privacy policy

How Australian Ground Sciences Pty Ltd, trading as Ground Check, handles personal information. Effective 7 September 2026.

This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website and in the course of quoting and delivering our reports, why we collect it, how we keep it safe, who we share it with, and how you can access or correct it or make a complaint. We are bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

In this policy, we, us and our mean Australian Ground Sciences Pty Ltd trading as Ground Check. Ground Check and Australian Ground Sciences are the same legal entity; information you give one is held by the other.

What we collect

When you request a quote: your name, email address, phone number, company (if any), whether you are an owner, builder or other professional, the site address, the report you need and anything you tell us about the project.
When we do the work: the details needed to access the site, the borehole logs and test results for the site, and the report we issue. The report describes the ground, not you, but it carries the site address.
How you found us: if you arrived from an advertisement or a search, the campaign, keyword and click identifier Google attached to the link, the page you landed on and the page you enquired from. We record this with your enquiry so we know which advertising brings real work. It is not used to identify you beyond your enquiry.
Technical information: a hashed (one-way, non-reversible) form of your IP address and your browser type, kept with your enquiry to detect automated submissions.

How we use it

To quote, schedule, carry out and deliver the report you asked for, and to invoice for it.
To reply to your questions.
To keep a record of the work for the period professional practice and the law require.
To measure which advertising and search terms lead to enquiries, in aggregate.

We do not sell personal information. If you ask for a quote, we may follow up about that quote by email or phone, and after we deliver a report we may email you once to ask for a review. Every such email carries an unsubscribe link, and we stop the moment you use it. We do not send unrelated marketing email. If you enquire and do not proceed, we keep your enquiry so we can pick it up if you come back.

Cookies and analytics

This site uses Google Ads conversion tracking and, where configured, Google Analytics. They set cookies and collect information about how the site is used, including the pages you visit and whether you submit an enquiry. When you submit an enquiry we may pass your email address or phone number to Google in a hashed form (Google's “enhanced conversions”) so a conversion can be matched to the advertisement that brought you here. Google's handling of that information is described in Google's privacy policy. You can opt out of Google's advertising cookies at adssettings.google.com, and most browsers let you block or delete cookies. The enquiry form works with cookies disabled.

The site also stores, in your browser only, the advertising parameters from the link you arrived on so they can be attached to an enquiry you make later in the same visit. This never leaves your browser unless you submit the form.

Our own systems. Enquiries are stored in the job-management system Australian Ground Sciences uses to run its work, hosted by Supabase in its Sydney (Australia) region, and processed on Vercel's infrastructure.
People involved in your job, such as a driller we engage for the site visit and the laboratory that tests the samples. They receive the site address and access details, not your personal contact information unless it is needed to arrange access.
Your builder, designer or certifier, if you ask us to send them the report.
Google, as described under cookies and analytics.
Anyone we are required by law to share it with.

Some of the services above (Google, Vercel) may process information outside Australia. We take reasonable steps to ensure they handle it in a way consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.

How long we keep it

Reports and the records behind them are kept for at least seven years because they may be needed if a question about the ground arises during or after construction. Enquiries that do not become jobs are kept for two years and then deleted.

How we keep it safe

Information is stored in access-controlled systems with encryption in transit and at rest. Access is limited to the people who need it to do the work. If a data breach is likely to cause serious harm we will notify the people affected and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as the law requires.

Access, correction and complaints

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete an enquiry that did not become a job, by emailing hello@groundcheck.com.au. We will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the effective date at the top of the page. The current version is always at groundcheck.com.au/privacy.
